SusanC is the Data Delivery Server of the Biological Services Department at the Weizmann Institute of Science. SusanC displays the status of and distributes the results from Biological Services processing of samples, and subsequent computational analysis of these results.

I have trouble using SusanC. Whom should I contact?
First thing is checking if your computer network connection is working? Can you access other sites?
(try access to http://www.weizmann.ac.il, http://www.google.co.il, http://cnn.com)
If you get an authorization error (incorrect userid or password), note that SusanC accepts the unique userid set at WICC.
First verify that you have a UNIX user account at WIS. Otherwise, please ask your department's administrator to open you a unix account.
When done call Irit/Shifra at x2470 in order to enter you into the susanc server.


Do I have a userid and password on SusanC?
SusanC accepts the unique userid set via WICC's admin. When this UNIX account is opened, call Irit/Shifra in order to enter you into the susanc server.

Is there web access to SusanC?
Yes. Point your web browser to http://susanc.weizmann.ac.il and enter your userid and password when requested.


Disk-like access to SusanC.

Please follow these steps to connect to SusanC from Mac OS X:

With the Finder open, click the "Go" menu and select "Connect to Server".

In the Address field type 'smb://susanc' and click 'Connect'.

In the next dialog box just click 'OK'.

You will be prompted for Workgroup/Domain (SUSANC), your Username and Password. Type them and click 'OK'.

You will then see a 'volume' icon on your desktop named 'HOMES'. This is your direct access to your data on SusanC.

Please follow these steps to connect to SusanC from Windows:

Click on Start

The Start menu will look similar to one of the following pictures, depending on which version of Windows you are running and how it is configured. From the Start menu, click on Run.

In the Run box type \\susanc and click OK.

This will open a dialog box in which you should enter your User name (unix userid) and Password and click OK.

After you have logged in, a window will open with your home directory on SusanC



 How much space do I have for data on SusanC?
You have essentially unlimited space on SusanC, but the space is only available for a limited period. Currently data are automatically deleted after six months.


What analysis software can I run on SusanC?
None. SusanC is used only for distributing data. You should download your results to another computer for analysis. Through your preferences page, you may request that your results automatically will be transferred to you by e-mail.

Users within the Weizmann Institute may configure SusanC's personal general behaviour via the preferences page:

  3. Automatic forwarding of results to another server

How do I open my downloaded result file(s)?
The result files are in a single .tar.gz compressed archive.
When downloaded onto your personal computer this archive, depending on your browser, will open automatically, granting access to the .seq, .ab1 and related files.
If this single compressed archive is not opened automatically, use 7Zip for PC or StuffIt for Macintosh to open this single compressed archive.


How often are results updated?
On susanc, results are updated as soon as they are generated at the various Biological Services' Units.
You can expect a few minutes delay for the new data to appear on noys,the server for users outside WIS. We can not estimate delivery time for data sent by email, since it depends on factors out of our control.

SusanC allows users within the Weizmann Institute to track the status of their Biological Services orders. At any time, you may access SusanC's status page to receive an updated report of where your samples are and, whenever possible, an estimated time of delivery.


I don't work at Weizmann. How will I access my results? Point your web browser to http://noys.weizmann.ac.il/dlims and enter your userid and password when requested. To get a userid or to change your preferences, i.e. also receive results via email, please call Irit or Shifra at 08-934-2470.
