open in new windowSwiss-PdbViewer is a molecular graphics program.
It is easy to learn and enables nice visualization and manipulation of biological molecules. It also includes a few basic tools for modeling.
This program is free and very simple to install on SGI, PC, Mac and Linux platforms.

The following topics will be discussed during the workshop:

  • Retrieving a PDB file from the Structural Protein Data Bank (RCSB).
  • Introduction to the PDB format.
  • Getting a molecule/molecules.
  • Selecting and displaying chains, residues, atoms and secondary structure within the molecule.
  • Coloring and rendering the molecules: CPK, Balls and Sticks, Ribbons etc.
  • Measuring and labeling.
  • Superimposing molecules.

The goal of this workshop is to enable each of the participants to display and analyze the structure of a biological molecule as well as to generate some nice pictures.
