Using structural information when aligning sequences is very useful. The reason is that structures diverge slower than sequences. As a consequence, one may still find a discernable homology between two sequences that have been diverging for so long that their sequences have evolved beyond recognition. In this workshop, we will show how to incorporate structural information in your sequences alignment.
The workshop will cover the use of two servers for structure based sequence alignment
open in new windowPROMALS3D
open in new windowEXPRESSO (3DCoffee)
We will follow the alignment process from retrieving sequences up to alignment validation.
Finally we will use open in new windowConsurf Server to project the evolutionary conservation scores of residues on the protein structure.
